De-Tuscanization of California Homes and Beyond

You can see that there is a growing desire for clean lines and brighter less ornate interiors all over the California and the united states. People that have been living in homes that are heavy in gold and yellow everywhere are desiring to De-Tuscanize their homes. Removing that old world feeling starting with granite, travertine floors, interior arches, odd angles, heavy wood details and the use of color schemes that emphasis brown and gold.

Not every home that is stylized as Tuscan has to be made beachy or contemporary. Ornate doors, stairwells and tile can be replaced for a fresh clean look. Many Tuscan homes have dark wood flooring that can simply be sanded in place and refinished in a lighter color. New fresh paint can also change how a home looks with a fresh coat of white, gray or even a beige tone as long as it is not too warm.

The question on many home owners minds is do you tackle all of this at once and embark upon a large remodel? or tackle the De-Tuscanization in phases. Currently we are working on a large home remodel where we are completely taking out all the arches, travertine and heavy wood details and opting for a clean more modern look. This large scale project is not for everyone. Below we have other options on tackling a smaller remodel.

A bathroom remodel where we removed the old glass block and travertine shower for a material that was brighter, more modern to give this tired old bathroom a fresh new look.

Another option is just a refresh leaving behind the flooring and updating the kitchen or bathroom to be brighter and more current.

You can see another great examples of this below from Heather Scott from Texas. It all depends on the scope of work that you want to tackle. If you are thinking about a remodel, but don’t want to tackle the dust and the mess, this approach might be the right fit for you. Either way its a great way to get a fresh new look.

Brilliant Blue - Statement Kitchen Remodel

This kitchen remodel takes it up step from your basic white kitchen by adding Brilliant blue hood and island.

Originally the kitchen was your typical builder’s grade kitchen, basic and boring. The existing kitchen was uninspiring and due to its lacking countertop space and appeal, the homeowners were seeking something more, they wanted a “wow” factor and they wanted it to venture away from your typical kitchen.

The perfect paint match program that we offer to clients we decided to go with the WOW” factor. Sherwin Williams “Dress Blues”, which paired impeccably with the selected range hood from Viking Appliances. We completed the design layout and layered on the finishes.

The large size island with decorative panels and square turned posts make the end of the island look like a built in table for the family to share those quick breakfast moments.
